  • A permit is required for construction, addition, alteration (altering the structure with walls, beams, etc.), remodeling, replacement (hot water tank, furnace, AC unit), and demolition. A separate permit shall be obtained for signs, electrical work, plumbing work, heating appliances and any other equipment installation that is regulated by the Building Code.

  • A homeowners permit can be pulled for general construction such as roofs, decks, siding, concrete etc. All other trade permits must be pulled for electrical (except power restoration), plumbing, HVAC, and fire by licensed contractors. The homeowner who obtains their own permit is considered the contractor for the project and is responsible for making sure that all work is in compliance with applicable codes and ordinances and that all inspections are scheduled before work is concealed. All subcontractors must be registered with the city.

  • The city does not recommend or endorse contractors but we do maintain a list of all registered, licensed and bonded contractors for all trades.

  •  A permit is valid during the course of construction. If work is delayed or suspended for more than 6 months, or if the project is not completed within 1 year after issuance, then your permit approval is invalid. The city may grant one or more 90 day extensions of the permit if good cause is shown in writing.

  • New permits are required to be secured by the new contractor. The cost of any new permit(s) is dependent on the level of completion. Upon request, the city will perform an inspection to record the progress and scope of work completion.

  • The city does not allow any person to park, store or permit any trailer, manufactured home, recreational vehicle or similar conveyance to stand or remain upon any property in the city, except if it is kept in a garage or other similar and suitable structure upon such premises.
